Job Description

Main Responsibilities / Job Duties Strategic Direction & Development

 1. Develop a clear strategic vision for the division, identifying its overarching aims, and targets. 

2. Create and implement a strategic plan underpinned by sound financial management, identifying priorities and targets to raise achievement and sustain school improvement.

 3. Consult on, develop, implement, and regularly review policies aligned with national and global trends, local school data, inspections, and research findings.

 4. Establish an ethos that promotes a collaborative educational vision, securing effective teaching, successful learning, and continuous improvement in students’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development. 

5. Ensure the full commitment of staff and stakeholders to the school’s aims and objectives. 

6. Organise the school’s management and operations to effectively support its vision and goals. 

 

Teaching & Learning

 1. Determine, organise, and deliver a diverse, flexible curriculum within the Cambridge framework, alongside an effective assessment system. 

2. Maintain an environment and code of behaviour that promote excellent teaching, effective learning, high achievement, and good discipline.

 3. Monitor and evaluate learning and teaching standards, ensuring high professional performance and addressing underperformance at all levels. 

4. Review the curriculum regularly to identify improvements and foster a culture of personalised learning. 

5. Oversee the quality of teaching, including Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring inclusion, diversity, and access. 

6. Build effective partnerships with parents, carers, the local community, and other schools to enrich students’ learning and development. 

7. Participate in teaching as appropriate, including providing cover for absent staff. 

 

Management & Administration 

1. Maintain records related to school management and operations. 

2. Manage the ordering of equipment and supplies as needed (with appropriate approvals). 

3. Prepare agendas and reports for Board, leadership, committee and parent meetings. 

4. Participate in the recruitment and selection of teaching staff. 

5. Delegate tasks clearly, supporting and evaluating individual and team contributions. 

6. Implement robust staff performance management systems, including appraisals and target-setting. 

7. Lead staff professional development, including induction for new teachers, aligned with national standards. 

8. Ensure all professional duties are fulfilled and maintain positive working relationships across the school community. 

 

Staff Leadership 

1. Establish decision-making structures that encourage staff participation and maintain clear communication channels. 

2. Ensure thorough vetting of all staff, children, and volunteers. 

3. Facilitate regular staff and curriculum planning meetings. 

4. Provide support, supervision, and guidance to the staff team, fostering teamwork and collaboration. 

5. Coordinate recruitment and selection in partnership with management when needed. 

6. Conduct regular staff appraisals, identifying and addressing training needs. 

7. Lead induction programmes for new staff, children, and volunteers. 

8. Promote team development and shared accountability across the division. 

 

Accountability 

Fulfil responsibilities as outlined in key performance priorities and targets agreed with the Principal. 

 

Education & Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Education or Early Childhood Education (advanced qualifications are an advantage). 

Minimum 10 years of teaching experience and at least 2 years in an administrative or leadership role. 

 

Technical, Managerial & Personal Competencies 

1. Strong knowledge of leadership and management principles in an educational setting. 

2. Understanding of human resource management. 

3. Excellent written and verbal communication; persuasive and engaging communicator. 

4. Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organisational abilities. 

5. Ability to collaborate effectively, set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions to enhance organisational effectiveness.
